The Val Maira at your fingertips
Choosing the ‘Napoleonica’ route in Stroppo puts you at the strategic heart of the Val Maira, a perfect starting point for both those wishing to explore the head and tail of the valley and those keen to venture into the most picturesque side vales. Our location allows you to plan different adventures every day, moving from the wild beauty of Elva, the unspoilt pastures of Marmora and the majestic peaks of Acceglio.
Whether you are a keen hiker, a photography enthusiast or a cyclist ready to tackle the climbs of the Terre Alte, the entire valley lies open before you.
For cycling enthusiasts and lovers of long scenic walks, the inn boasts a prime location close to one of Europe’s most spectacular dirt tracks: the famous Strada dei Cannoni. This historic former military route, which runs along the ridge of the watershed between the Maira Valley and the Varaita Valley, offers enthusiasts forty kilometres of a breath-taking vista that stretces from the Maritime Alps to the silhouette of Monviso. Now promoted by the Val Maira Tourist Consortium as one of the region’s most fascinating Alpine cycle routes, the route is easily accessible from the nearby passes of Elva and Sampeyre, offering a total immersion in nature and history.
The Stroppo area offers a dense network of historic trails, walks through partially restored alpine hamlets, cultural itineraries linked to ancient Occitan traditions as well as long-distance high-altitude treks. When you return from a full day of exploring, we shall be delighted to welcome you to our inn, where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest, secure storage for your bikes, and personalised advice from Simon and Carole on the less-travelled trails and the most breath-taking photo opportunities you won’t want to miss.
