The locanda napoleonica takes its name from the famous French commander. Who knows whether, with his ever-present hat and riding his white horse, he really did pass through these lands, but one thing is certain: the deep connection with France has always been part of the Maira Valley’s identity.

Our story began with love at first sight: Simon's for the Maira Valley, which he discovered almost by chance during a cycling trip and which proved to be the perfect place to indulge his great passions: trekking and photography , a passion that also caught on with his mother, Carolewho was delighted to join him on this adventure in reviving the Locanda La Napoleonica. Here, Simon and Carole have channelled all their love for the area, their desire to look after it and pass this on to their guests, sharing the most picturesque trails, local history and the authentic flavours they have discovered over the years.

As well as its name, the inn also shares the French general’s ‘strategy’: Stroppo is, in fact, the ideal starting point for exploring the valley, allowing guests to easily alternate between excursions to Dronero, Marmora, Elva and Acceglio.

The inn is a cosy haven nestled in the historic hamlet of Stroppo BassuraTravellers are welcomed by the aromas of traditional Occitan cuisine, inviting them to dine: every dish celebrates the local area through a careful and passionate selection of ingredients sourced from local producers, offering an authentic and genuine culinary experience. Be sure to explore the wine list, curated with care and attention by Carole, who was born and raised in the French wine-growing world.

For a restful stay, the inn offers four rooms: warm or cool depending on the seaso, which are quiet and can accommodate between one and four people. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and promises a restorative night’s sleep thanks to high-quality mattresses made from natural materials such as wool and cotton. A comfortable desk invites you to pause and jot down the day’s inspirations or record memories of your recent adventures along the valley’s trails in your travel diary.

La Napoleonica is the ideal retreat for those wishing to explore the valley and seeking a restorative break in a cosy atmosphere that feels just like home, with the added convenience of secure bicycle storage.
